Connect with Top Leaders from the United States and Japan at Virtual Bilateral Boardroom

Online event presented by the U.S.-Japan Council and supported by a grant from CPB Foundation will focus on crisis management and the U.S.-Japan relationship

HONOLULU, HI | September 14, 2020 – The U.S.-Japan Council (USJC) will hold a virtual Bilateral Boardroom to convene key decision-makers from business, government, and the civil sector in the United States and Japan. Discussions will be on the theme of “Leadership Through Crisis, Lessons Learned” and will examine the impact of the coronavirus pandemic from a social and economic perspective through the lens of leadership during past crises, as well as identify avenues in which the United States and Japan can collaborate to realize a mutually prosperous future.

Prime Minster Shinzo Abe will offer video remarks, filmed prior to his resignation announcement. A fireside chat will bring Jamie Dimon, Chairman & CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. together with USJC's Board Chair Phyllis Campbell to address timely leadership issues including disruptions to international banking and the global economy, community investments, equity and inclusion and more. Paul Yonamine, Executive Chairman of Central Pacific Bank and Chair-elect of USJC’s Board of Directors, will share views on the importance of the U.S-Japan relationship and taking it to the next level. The program will also include a tribute from Japan’s Minister of Defense Taro Kono to USJC’s former president, the late Irene Hirano Inouye, who founded USJC alongside other prominent Japanese American leaders, including her husband, Senator Daniel Inouye.
