Important CPB news to know

Fee waivers ending June 30, 2020. As state and local restrictions begin to ease, and Hawaii and the Nation take steps toward reopening, the following temporarily waived fees will be reinstated beginning July 1, 2020:

  • CD early withdrawal penalty for terms 7 days and above
  • Non-CPB ATM transaction fees
  • Surcharge fee for non-CPB customer transactions on our ATMs
  • Plus Package monthly fee

Never a fee. Customers who use a CPB ATM to access their CPB accounts are never charged a fee. Using an ATM is ideal for banking that doesn’t require a branch visit, like reviewing your account balance or depositing a check. At ATMs located at Main, Kahala, Kalihi, Kapalama, and Waikiki International Banking Center branches, you can even make a deposit without the hassle of using envelopes or deposit slips. This feature is being steadily rolled out, so watch for the upgrade at an ATM near you.

Independence Day holiday schedule. All CPB branches and our Customer Service Center will be closed on Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Re-opened COVID-19 relief programs to help small businesses

Small Business Administration (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and Advance. On June 15, the SBA began accepting new EIDL and EIDL Advance applications from all eligible small businesses and U.S. agricultural businesses. Visit the SBA website for information and to apply.

City and County of Honolulu’s Small Business Relief and Recovery Program. Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell has added another $25 million to a grant program developed by the city to help small businesses financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

New law eases Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) rules

The Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act (PPPFA) that was recently signed into law provides some added relief to PPP borrowers by extending deadlines and relaxing a few of the key rules regarding loan repayment and spending restrictions. This Forbes article describes the changes.

CPB’s PPP borrowers should expect to receive separate email communication from our business team regarding updates such as the opening of the PPP loan forgiveness portal and an instructional webinar to help guide you through the application process.

As Hawaii’s businesses begin to reopen and our COVID-19 cases continue to remain low, now is an ideal time to rediscover our island home, uncrowded by tourists, and offer a boost to our local economy.

Interisland travel. The 14-day interisland travel quarantine was lifted for Hawaii residents earlier this week. New travel requirements, including a mandatory Traveler Health form, can be found at health.hawaii.gov/travel.

Get reacquainted with Hawaii’s cultural treasures. Iolani Palace – built in 1882 and one of the world’s first royal residences to be lit by electricity in 1886 – needs the help of kamaaina ticket sales, which can offset operating costs until grants, loans, donations are received.

Kalakaua Open Street Sundays. Take advantage of a wide open Waikiki and a unique opportunity to walk, jog or bike Kalakaua Avenue on Sundays through July 5 from 6:00 a.m. to noon. Officials remind participants to practice physical distancing, and to wear face coverings to the extent possible.
