Kahauiki Village a Finalist in 2018 Stronger Communities Award Needs Your Vote to Win

Kahauiki Village, the groundbreaking plantation style community development by visionary Duane Kurisu, is a finalist for the 2018 Strong Communities Award. Built near Nimitz Highway, Kahauiki Village is a cross-sector partnership with members of the public and private sectors joining forces to address the urgent need for long-term and permanent affordable housing for local families.

Presented by The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, the award recognizes projects that identify the economic development needs of their community and provides a solution. Winners will receive $15,000 and runner-ups receiving $3,000.

Winners will be determined by a selection committee, which will include a public vote as one of the components in the final selection. The voting period begins today, September 10, 2018, and ends on Friday, September 14, 2018.

Six other projects are also finalists for the award. Kahauiki is the only project representing Hawaii. Award announcements will be made in October 2018.
