Central Pacific Bank's Walk Raises $108,000 for Friends Of Youth Outreach Hawaii, Hawaii Literacy, Hawaiian Humane Society and Lanakila Pacific Meals On Wheels
Central Pacific Bank (CPB) employees, family and friends gathered at Honolulu Civic Center Sky Gate Park on Saturday, May 13, for their eighth annual CPB Walks For You event. Four checks totaling $108,291 were presented to the following employee-selected beneficiaries: Friends of Youth Outreach Hawaii, Hawaii Literacy, Hawaiian Humane Society and Lanakila Pacific Meals on Wheels. The total amount raised includes a match from the Central Pacific Bank Foundation.
Since Central Pacific Bank launched its annual Walks For You fundraiser in 2010, the event has raised nearly $761,000 for Hawaii nonprofits selected by the bank’s employees.
“The walk is a testament to our employees’ commitment to serving our community,” said Catherine Ngo, President and CEO of Central Pacific Bank. “I am proud to be leading a team that values enriching the lives of others here in Hawaii.”
This year, over 500 participants attended the walk. Everyone enjoyed a delicious breakfast, potted plant making for mom, tie dying, informational and activity booths provided by the nonprofit beneficiaries, and even a knockerball tournament that ended with the winning team battling the executive team.
“We are truly honored and grateful to be selected by Central Pacific Bank’s employees as a recipient of their annual walk fundraising efforts," said Marian Tsuji, president & CEO of Lanakila Pacific. "Lanakila Pacific’s Meals on Wheels program helps our growing kupuna population stay healthy in their own homes with a nutritious meal delivered by a friendly volunteer."
Each year, employees host various fundraising events such as a gauntlet skills challenge, wine pull, dollar bill rose bouquets, and lots of food and bake sales. The walk marks the culmination of two months of fundraising efforts by the company's employees.
