Central Pacific Bank's Walk Raises $102,000 for Hawaii Children's Cancer Foundation, Hawaii Fi-Do, and Kapiolani's Children's Children's Miracle Network
HONOLULU, HI June 6, 2016 – Central Pacific Bank (CPB) employees, family and friends gathered at Honolulu Civic Center Sky Gate Park on Saturday, June 4 for their seventh annual CPB Walks For You event. Three checks totaling $102,135 were presented to the following employee-selected beneficiaries: Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation, Hawaii Fi-Do, and Kapiolani’s Children’s Miracle Network. The total amount raised includes a match from the Central Pacific Bank Foundation.
Since Central Pacific Bank launched its annual Walks For You fundraiser, the event has raised nearly $652,000 for Hawaii nonprofits selected by the bank’s employees.
“Imbedded within our culture is a long tradition of caring and service to our community,” said Catherine Ngo, President and CEO of Central Pacific Bank. “I am proud to be part of a team that values enriching the lives of others and working to build a healthier Hawaii.”
This year, over 580 participants attended the County Fair themed walk. Everyone also enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast, pie throwing with CPB’s executives as the targets, a malasada eating contest, and informational booths provided by the nonprofit beneficiaries.
“We are honored to have Central Pacific Bank’s employees support the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children,” said Tom Mundell, Senior Vice President of Philanthropy at Hawaii Pacific Health. “The money raised for the Children’s Miracle Network is used towards transport services, the child life program, medical equipment, educational programs, and specialty services.”
Each year, employees host various fundraising events such as an ice cream social, golf putting course, selfie scavenger hunt, carnival, and lots of food and bake sales. The walk marks the culmination of two months of fundraising efforts by the company's employees.
“We are truly honored to be selected as one of three nonprofits sponsored by Central Pacific Bank's walk this year,” said Jim Kennedy, Executive Director of Hawaii Fi-Do. “We have 15 dogs at various levels of training and because it takes a great deal of resources to make that happen, this funding is so very much appreciated."
