CPB Donates 5,331 Native Hawaiian Trees & Plants

Central Pacific Bank donates 5,331 Native Hawaiian trees and plants to Hui Kū Maoli Ola and Papahana Kuaola. Central Pacific Bank employees and its customers planted the Native Hawaiian plants and trees on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Papahana Kuaola in Kaneohe.

The project is the result of a recent campaign launched by Central Pacific Bank that offered Native Hawaiian foliage to be planted when customers switched from traditional paper to online statements. As a result, bank employees and CPB customers will be mulching, digging small holes and watering the plants at Papahana Kuaola’s Kaneohe site on Saturday.

“Reducing waste and helping protect and sustain our delicate environment here in Hawaii is very important to our employees and customers,” said David Hudson, EVP, Community Banking Manager. “Since our first planting in 2010, we have donated nearly 14,000 Native Hawaiian trees and plants to help with reforestation efforts.”

“We are very pleased with this partnership with Central Pacific Bank and couldn’t be happier with their donation,” said Matt Schirman of Hui Kū Maoli Ola. “Native Hawaiian plants have been under attack for more than 200 years because of the destruction of their natural habitat and our efforts are to save some native plants from the brink of extinction."

Hui Kū Maoli Ola, a commercial plant nursery, and Papahana Kuaola, its non-profit educational arm, are two allied organizations dedicated to help protect and perpetuate Hawaii’s unique natural resources and cultural practices.
