This longstanding local brand has products that make you smile. A strong commitment to Hawaii. And a bank that’s always there for them.
When 88 Tees founder Loukie Wong moved to Hawaii from Hong Kong in the early ’80s, her family wanted her to open a Chinese restaurant. “That was too boring for me,” says Loukie. “I loved fashion. And I wanted to spread aloha through fashion.”
Initially, Loukie worked at a kiosk in Duke’s Lane, but she had a vision for the future. In 1988, she opened her first 88 Tees store (the 88 in the name comes from the year the company started). She took frequent trips to California to source vintage items, which she would then sell in Hawaii to fund her dreams.
Today, 88 Tees has a strong online presence as well as two stores, one on Kuhio Ave. and the flagship store on Kalakaua Ave. They sell limited-edition t-shirts along with bags, mugs, buttons, stickers…the list goes on.
You’ll find discounts of up to 30% off during the holiday season. But if you see something you like, you’d better scoop it up fast. As Loukie says, “What’s special about our store is every time you come, it’s something different. And when it’s gone, it’s gone. It’s like treasure hunting.”
Unlike many stores in Waikiki, 88 Tees still offers kamaaina discounts, plus military discounts. They also do collaborations with local organizations like the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, Hawaii International Film Festival, and UH.
When it comes to a banking partner, “CPB is the best,” says Loukie. “They’re always thinking of what’s best for my business, always finding solutions to our challenges. CPB’s given me so many good ideas over the years. I really appreciate that.” As 88 Tees continues in its mission of providing “Every Fit For Every Style,” CPB will be there for them every fashionable step of the way.
